EMBARGO: IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WI brings a new definition to hot pants at Royal County of Berkshire Show

BIG knickers are back in f as hion and Bridget Jones could be taking a starring role at Royal County of Berkshire Show (20-21st September 2008) with a competition being run by the Women’s Institute to find the "best dressed pants".

The fun contest follows a similar “best dressed bra” competition at the 2006 show and will raise awareness for ovarian, prostate and testicular cancer.

Becky Elvin, General Manager of Royal County of Berkshire Show said: “We are delighted if the show can help raise awareness of this important health issue. We have had fun in the office coming up with our own designs and the judges will be expecting some fairly spectacular entries!”

Judy Williamson who is organising the “Fancy Pants” competition for the WI said she w as hoping that the contest would bring the same level of interest as for the “best dressed bra” two years ago which attracted 80 entries.

“The competition is open to any WI group or member in Berkshire . We want to highlight not just ovarian cancer but prostate and testicular cancer as well although whether we will get any “best dressed underpant” entries, I don’t know!”

The decorated pants will be displayed in the WI marquee at The Royal County of Berkshire Show and to highlight the issue of the three forms of cancer, there will be a display and information desk provided by the Royal Berkshire Hospital .

The hottest pants on display will be judged during the show by a celebrity panel.

The WI marquee is part of the v as t tented village at Royal County of Berkshire Show. In addition to the popular existing Horticulture Tent with floral art, inter-village and display competitions, this year the "Gardens of Distinction" area will include; show gardens, hanging b as ket, trough and vegetable competitions.  Traditional rural crafts and a growing local food area are always a popular draw and this year all eyes will be on hot competition in the cookery theatre as several of the region’s celebrity chefs line up to work with the best local produce.
